Project 3: Rhinitis

This piece is meant to be shocking, with the bright, contrasting colors, and the strained expression on the subjects face. When I began this piece, I initially found the reference image on Pinterest, and connected with it immediately. I feel it represents, in a way, how i experience emotion. If i had to put it into words, I'd be at a loss. However, I resonate mostly with how the subject appears to be forcing his mouth open, as if begging something to escape. I personally am one to hold in my emotions, letting them absorb into the sponge that is my mind, and holding them there for weeks, sometimes months. I have trouble crying. I only ring out that soaking sponge of sentiment when it's too overwhelming to let it soak any longer. This is how I process my world, and I'm happy to have been able to express it in this form.

This piece was painted in oil, with bright red acrylic paint covering the background.

- I found inspiration from artist Andrew Cadima, a skilled painter who often paints faces in monochromatic palettes.
