Project 5: Grandma's Lamp

When I was younger, I lived with my great grandparents. They raised me, due to my dad being a deadbeat and my mom working two jobs. In their living room, they have always had this specific floor lamp. I used to have a desk in that room, and that lamp was always right next to me, whether I was working on homework or playing video games. It stood above me and watched over. I would compare this lamp to the sun; it was a major part of the environment I grew up in, while still being a monotonous background object. The corner of my grandparents' living room was my space for a very long time, and I wanted to represent how it watched me grow over time.
This project started without a full end-vision, and I don't have a reference image of my grandparents' house, so I had to use strictly my memory. Alongside that challenge, I also had to find a good image of a similar lamp, because I don't have the clearest photo-memory of it. I searched "90's floor lamp" and did some digging. In my search, I found many posts across various sites, stating that families have had their homes set alight by these lamps. This not only installed fear in me, but made me realize the more literal similarities between this lamp and the sun. With this realization, came the Inspiration for the text in the center of the paper. Not only does it fill space, but it also adds a little more context for someone who doesn't understand this piece.
