Project 2: Delicate

With this piece, the question guiding me was: could a creature so rough care for something so delicate? Within this topic, "humans (animals)", I wanted to present the behavior of gentleness that insects have, and compare it with the harshness of human behavior. If humans were to live with such fragile physical attributes, would humankind be any different? Or would the violence of our nature take over the way we've been taught to handle fragile things? This piece meant a lot for me in the sense of my comfort zone; I've never handled materials that require me to create something so gestural. using varying sizes of ripped up pieces of paper, I attempted to create the values of human skin, using light and dark. This was a challenge in itself, as I had to search many books and take values from hundreds of pages. These pieces all came together to display a rough figure, while the smoothness of colored pencils on paper, creating the wings, contrasts this roughness.
